A woman lawyer’s claim of being catcalled inside the Klang Court compound has reignited online discussions regarding women’s safety in public spaces.
A WOMAN lawyer has initiated an online discussion about women’s safety after alleging that she was catcalled and asked for her phone number by a group of men within the grounds of Klang Court.
In a post on Threads, the woman said she was walking towards her car when the incident occurred, expressing shock that the alleged harassment took place within a courthouse compound.
“As a woman, where is our safety?” she wrote.
She claimed the men, whom she described as appearing to be around twice her age, had called out to her and asked for her number.
“The fact that this happened within the grounds of a courthouse, and even as a lawyer, they literally have no shame or fear in behaving this way,” she said.
The woman described the experience as unexpected and upsetting, questioning when such behaviour would stop.
“Honestly, when is this going to stop?” she added.
Her post drew a range of reactions, with several users expressing support and calling for greater accountability for alleged harassment in public spaces.
Some commenters urged her to share the video without blurring the individuals’ faces, arguing that identifying those involved could help prevent similar incidents.
Others cautioned that publishing identifiable footage could expose the parties involved to legal action, particularly if the allegations had not been substantiated.
One user stressed the importance of documenting such incidents and lodging a police report where appropriate.
Another commenter, however, appeared to downplay the alleged behaviour, describing attention from men as a possible compliment, although the remark drew criticism for minimising the woman’s concerns.
The discussion also highlighted differing views on how women should respond to unwanted attention and how alleged harassment should be reported.
The incident has renewed conversations about women’s safety in public spaces, including locations where people may reasonably expect to feel secure.
Catcalling and other forms of unwanted attention can leave those targeted feeling uncomfortable or intimidated.
Members of the public who experience harassment can consider documenting what happened, seeking assistance from security personnel and reporting the incident to the police where appropriate.
