Unfortunately, it’s time to ponder what comes next already. The Yankees were eliminated in the ALDS by their division rivals for the second straight year, and it’s safe to say that allowing that process to play out a third consecutive year would cause some nuclear-reactor level meltdowns. The immediate aftermath of their elimination was handled by my colleague Jake in our last mailbag while the team was still active, but now that the team is officially in offseason mode it’s time to start picking apart what went wrong and what the team can do going forward.
There’s a lot of moving parts in the Yankees’ roster turnover this year, with 10 free agents to be, though there’s still a lot of money tied up to the superstars of the roster making some big swings unlikely. Still, there’s room for a sizeable makeover if Brian Cashman and company can get creative. How can the team revamp its offense after struggling to put rallies together for most of the year and when it mattered most? What will come of Aaron Judge’s lost year and his frustrations with how the team is currently looking? What bright spots can they build around from an otherwise lost year? If you have questions like these, or anything else on your mind, send ‘em in for a chance to be featured in our Yankees mailbag.
Answers will run on Friday afternoon. All questions received by the night of October 22nd will be considered. You can leave your submissions in the comment section below or by e-mail to pinstripealleyblog [at] gmail [dot] com.
