CYBERJAYA: The e-wallet function in the TuJu navigation app is a planned feature that has yet to be developed, the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) said.
MHA operations and maintenance director Mohd Shahrir Amin Ahmad said TuJu was originally conceived as a "super app", but the current focus was on navigation.
"The e-wallet is meant for when we are on a journey and stop at a rest and service area.
"It is a future feature that has yet to be built into the app. It is still in the planning stage.
"Right now, we are focusing on navigation and our highway features," he told a press conference here today.
He was responding to a question on why TuJu collects financial data, such as e-wallet transactions, unlike Waze.
Shahrir said TuJu 2.0 upgraded existing features, including navigation, CCTV footage and traffic information on accidents, while adding electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and local attractions.
"We also have features similar to Google's, where users can set fixed destinations they frequently visit.
"Users can also locate where their car is parked, for example, in a large parking area.
"We have added many features in version 2. It has been launched on Android, while the iOS version is expected by the end of this month.
"This is because Apple is still testing version 2 before releasing it on the App Store," he said.
MHA deputy director-general (operations) Ir Dr Mohammed Ridzuan Jahidin said the app also had an SOS button that sends emergency information to the relevant highway concessionaire if users encounter problems on the highway.
"Downloads have now exceeded 700,000 since yesterday, and we are improving our services, especially navigation. The other features can still be used," he said.
