Air Canada has a new fee for passengers to be aware of when booking on the phone.
Effective Oct. 15, 2026, the airline began charging a non-refundable booking fee of $30 (plus applicable taxes) per passenger for new bookings made by phone with an Air Canada agent through its service centres.
On its website, the airline encourages passengers to book with no reservation fees through the website or through the Air Canada app.
“If you still prefer to make your reservation by phone, our Service Centre agents remain available to offer expert advice and personalized support when you need help, especially in situations that require special attention or cannot be resolved through our self-service options,” says Air Canada on its website.
“Booking fees do not apply to customers who require special support, including people with accessibility needs. If your trip is disrupted by a delay, cancellation, or other reason, the assistance offered to you remains the same, and no booking fees will be charged.”
Service agents to be used when personalized service required
The airline also explains why this fee is happening given the availability of the website and app for self-serve booking and managing travel.
“Using these digital tools for everyday travel needs reduces wait times and allows our Service Centre agents to focus their expertise on situations requiring personalized assistance,” Air Canada says on its website.
“The booking fees are also in line with the current policy for Aeroplan flight reward bookings made through our Service Centers.”
Both WestJet and Flair have $25 booking fees for reservations made by phone with agents through their call centres.
