Salam TV Managing Director Hajji Karim Kaliisa has met Muslim elders in Hoima to brief them on the Omumanyi wa Salam TV competition, whose Bunyoro-Tooro regional winner will receive a fully funded Umrah pilgrimage.
Salam TV has met Muslim elders in Hoima City ahead of the Bunyoro-Tooro regional finals of its Omumanyi wa Salam TV quiz competition, scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The seventh edition of the competition will take place at Bwikya Hill in Hoima City from 8am to 1pm, with the regional winner set to receive a fully funded Umrah pilgrimage courtesy of Tawakal Travel and Salam TV.
While in Hoima for final preparations, Salam TV and Salam Charity Managing Director Hajji Karim Kaliisa visited several elders, including retired Chief Magistrate Hajji Uthuman Kitunzi, Sheikh Badru Balikagira and Sheikh Bitamazire.
The visits were intended to brief the elders about the competition and invite them to witness the regional finals.
Sheikh Balikagira commended Salam TV for its contribution to community development and urged the public to support the station whenever called upon.
Launched in 2021, Omumanyi wa Salam TV is a quiz competition designed to encourage participants to expand their knowledge, conduct research and compete for prizes.
For its first five years, the competition was held at Salam TV's studios in Kampala. During the sixth edition, management decided to expand it into a national platform, taking the competition and related community sensitisation programmes to different regions.
The seventh edition has expanded coverage from six to eight regions, with organisers seeking to bring the competition closer to participants while extending its community development initiatives.
Kaliisa said the prizes were not the competition's primary objective, but rather a way of attracting people to programmes focused on socioeconomic development, digital literacy and religious education.
He cited initiatives such as Smart Community, digital literacy training and religious programmes as some of the activities through which Salam TV seeks to improve lives across the country.
“We have so far concluded Busoga Region and Eastern Region. After Bunyoro-Tooro Region, we shall head to Northern, West Nile, Ankole-Kigezi, Greater Masaka, Central Region and conclude with the grand finale that always takes place in Kampala, where all regional winners are gathered to compete for major prizes including cars, Hajj pilgrimages, land titles, among others, that completely change people's lives,” Kaliisa said.
The grand finale in Kampala will bring together regional winners to compete for major prizes, including cars, Hajj pilgrimages and land titles.
Kaliisa thanked sponsors who have supported the competition since its earlier editions and called on more corporate organisations to partner with Salam TV in community development, mobilisation and public sensitisation.
