Nvidia breaks silence on RTX 5090 discontinuation rumours as executive confirms continued shipments

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has been at the centre of considerable controversy over the past week. Multiple reports suggested that Nvidia had stopped allocating GB202 GPUs to board partners, potentially signalling the end of its flagship Blackwell graphics card. However, Nvidia has now officially responded to the rumours, denying that the flagship Blackwell GPU has reached its end of life.

Speaking to Taiwanese media following the RTX Spark Launch Party in Taipei on 16 October, Nvidia’s Senior Vice President of Personal Computing, Jeff Fisher, confirmed that the GeForce RTX 5090 has not been discontinued. According to Taiwanese publication 4Gamers, Fisher acknowledged that supply-chain capacity remains constrained but insisted that Nvidia is doing everything it can to bring its products to market.

Fisher also emphasised the importance of GeForce to Nvidia’s broader business, arguing that the company’s current position in the AI industry would not have been possible without its gaming graphics cards and CUDA ecosystem. He reiterated that the RTX 5090 remains an important product and that Nvidia intends to continue shipping it. Taiwan’s Central News Agency independently corroborated his remarks.

The statement directly contradicts recent rumours that Nvidia had discontinued the RTX 5090 to prioritise its more lucrative RTX Pro workstation graphics cards. German publication PC Games Hardware subsequently reported that multiple independent sources from retail, distribution and Nvidia’s partner network had confirmed an end to new GB202 allocations for GeForce graphics cards.

There is also the matter of retail availability. The RTX 5090 has become increasingly difficult to purchase. US retailer Micro Center recently changed the availability status of multiple models to “Not Carried”, while Nvidia itself removed the flagship GPU from the model selection on its official Marketplace. Meanwhile, RTX 5090 prices worldwide are well north of $5,000 regardless of region.

While Fisher’s comments clarify Nvidia’s official position, they do not fully explain the reported allocation changes or the disappearance of RTX 5090 models from retail listings. Nevertheless, the latest statement puts the immediate discontinuation rumours into question. For now, the RTX 5090 remains part of Nvidia’s GeForce portfolio, even if actually finding one at a reasonable price continues to be a challenge.

That said, it is common for companies to deny supply chain rumours, even if they come from established sources like MegaSizeAPU. Admitting supply chain constraints also gives them an excuse to secretly cut RTX 5090 production behind the scenes, redirecting more GB202 GPUs to RTX Pro GPUs.
