KAZAN, October 16. /TASS/. Tatarstan is interested in English-speaking engineering and technical professionals, IT specialists, medical personnel, and highly skilled welders from India, the republic’s Labor, Employment, and Social Protection Minister Elmira Zaripova stated.
“Today, our needs align in terms of qualifications. India is not only a source of labor, but also of English-speaking engineering, technical, and IT professionals, medical personnel, and highly skilled welders. I would like to point out that welders from India are familiar with Russian federal standards, particularly those on manual submerged-arc welding. In other words, they are familiar with our standards, and this also brings us closer together,” she noted during “The Labor Market: Challenges and Prospects” session held within the framework of the second Russian-Indian Business Forum "TIME: Tatarstan Initiative Mutual Efficiency."
According to Zaripova, unemployment in Tatarstan is practically nonexistent. There are nearly 3,000 unemployed citizens, accounting for less than 0.2% of the economically active population. At the same time, there are 14-25 job openings for every unemployed person.
The regional minister also noted that Tatarstan received a quota in 2026 to recruit more than 3,000 Indian citizens and that more than 600 work permits were issued to Indian citizens in the republic in 2025. Currently, more than 1,000 Indian citizens are officially employed in the region. The average age of an Indian worker is 29, an age at which people focus on long-term career prospects. In addition, nearly 1,300 Indian students are enrolled in Tatarstan universities, primarily in medical and technical programs.
“The key to future progress lies in harmonizing standards for the recognition of professional qualifications. Without this, workers trained in their home countries will not be hired here, especially in fields such as welding, engineering, medicine, and IT. This is a priority that is now being addressed at the federal level as well,” Zaripova concluded.
The second Russian-Indian Business Forum "TIME: Tatarstan Initiative Mutual Efficiency" is taking place on October 14–17 at the Center for Unique Craftsmanship in Kazan. TASS is the forum’s general information partner.
