Bangladesh took the upper hand on the Day 3 against Afghanistan in the 1st Test scoring 223 for the loss of six wickets at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.
Bangladesh have now a comfortable 329-run lead.
The Tigers piled up a satisfactory 346 in the first innings on the second day (Saturday).
In reply, Afghanistan made 240 on the third day (Sunday).
Bangladesh scored 223 for the loss of six wickets before the bails were drawn for the third day.
Afghanistan resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 211 for the loss of four wickets on the third day. Rahmat Shah and Ikram Alikhil resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 84 and 26 runs respectively.
Right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain gave his team early breakthrough as Ikram Alikhil (32) was bowled out by right-arm pacer when Afghanistan’s score was 219 for the loss of five wickets.
Promising right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud struck as Ismat Alam (1) was bowled out by the right-arm pacer when Afghanistan’s score was 220 for the loss of six wickets.
Hasan Mahmud hit again as Qais Ahmed (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off right-arm pacer.
Hasan fulfilled his hat-trick after trapped leg before wicket Zia-up-Rahman in his next ball.
Yasin Ahmadzai (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off right-arm pacer when Afghanistan’s total was 223 for the loss of nine wickets and Hasan Mahmud fulfilled his five-wicket haul.
Hasan Mahmud finished his superb spell as 21-5-55-5.
Mohammad Saleem (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Ebadot Hossain when Afghanistan’s innings came to an end.
Ebadot Hossain captured four wickets in the space of 56 runs.
Rahmat Shah remained unbeaten with 105. His 216-ball captain’s knock was belted with 10 fours and two sixes. It was Rahmat Shah’s fourth Test century.
Bangladesh had a modest start with two openers Shadman Islam and Tanzid Hasan put on together 31 runs in the opening stand before Shadman (13) was caught at the deep square leg by Rahmat Shah off Mohammad Saleem.
Mominul Haque (7) was dismissed by Yamin Ahmadzai when Bangladesh’s score was 44 for the loss of two wickets.
Tanzid Hasan (31) was dismissed by Yamin Ahmadzai when Bangladesh’s total was 53 for the loss of three wickets.
Second-down Najmul Hossain Shanto and third-down Mushfiqur Rahim salvaged their team contributing together 159 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the first slip by Shahidullah off Zia-ur-Rahman when the Tigers’ score was 212 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim notched up an outstanding 81. His 148-ball innings was decorated with nine fours. It was Mushfiqur Rahim’s 30th half century.
Then, Najmul Hossain Shanto was bowled out by Qais Ahmed when Bangladesh’s total was 222 for the loss of five wickets.
Shanto hit a captain’s knock of 82. His 191-ball innings had five fours.
Hasan Mahmud (1) was trapped leg before wicket by Zia-ur-Rahman when the umpires drew the bails for the third day.
