SEJONG — Forty-four central government bodies, including the Ministry of Justice, the Financial Services Commission and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, will relocate to Sejong. About 3,000 officials will move first starting next year, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense will shift in phases through 2031 after building separate offices.
Interior and Safety Minister Yoon Ho-jung announced the "second central government relocation plan" at a briefing at the Government Complex Seoul on the 13th. The plan covers 44 agencies with a combined 9,929 authorized positions.
The government plans to move 27 agencies first next year, including the Korea Media and Communications Commission, the Personal Information Protection Commission, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission and the Financial Services Commission. The timing for the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will be set in line with a revision of the law governing the administrative capital.
Seventeen agencies — including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Unification, the Board of Audit and Inspection, the Korean National Police Agency, the Public Prosecution Office and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency — will move sequentially after new offices are built.
