Kohima, Oct 15: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) on the Kohima-Jessami road (NH-29) has set an October 30 deadline for Ratna Infrastructure Projects Private Limited to mobilise all required machinery and materials at the project site, warning of action if the company fails to meet its commitment.
The deadline was fixed at a meeting held at the Red Cross Building in Kohima on Wednesday, attended by representatives of Chakhesang frontal organisations, the Pochury, Sangtam and Angami communities, and village representatives from Kezoma.
The committee expressed strong resentment over what it termed the continued negligence of the contractor and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in addressing the grievances of people affected by the prolonged road project.
According to the JAC, the deadline follows a written assurance from the project manager of Ratna Infrastructure Projects Private Limited. The committee warned that failure to honour the commitment would compel it to initiate appropriate action, holding the company responsible for the consequences.
The meeting also resolved to write to the NHIDCL executive director and the EPC contractor executing Package-I, demanding immediate repairs to damaged stretches of the highway in accordance with the terms and standards of the contract agreement.
The Kohima-Jessami road is a crucial connectivity link for several communities in Nagaland. Delays in the project and the deteriorating condition of sections of the highway have fuelled concerns among residents and road users.
The JAC’s latest resolution puts the contractor under a fresh deadline to demonstrate progress, while also pressing NHIDCL and the executing agencies to address road damage and the difficulties faced by commuters.
