Ohio State head coach Ryan Day knows what strong wide receiver play looks like as well as anyone. Plenty have come through Columbus and onto the NFL during his time coaching the Buckeyes.
He was asked about Indiana’s receivers, namely Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh, ahead of the Hoosiers’ massive matchup with the Buckeyes this coming Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Day’s coached against each before, Becker in last year’s Big Ten Championship Game and Marsh during his time at Michigan State, and gave strong praise for each’s play and the coaching that goes into it.
Day praised the pair’s route running, play through contact, body control and more, noting Indiana’s success with slants, fades, back shoulder fades and other routes.
“You can tell that’s clearly taught at a very high level there,” Day said. “Certainly Becker’s made some Big Time plays in big time moments and Marsh is playing as good as anybody right now. It’s a huge challenge for our secondary.”
Becker finished with six receptions for 126 yards against Ohio State in last season’s Big Ten Championship Game, with a notable 33-yard grab on third down that extended Indiana’s final drive to run down the clock.
