Many fans are still baffled by the ongoing walkoff before the national anthem in the WNBA finals.
During the WNBA Finals, the national anthem drama blew up all over again. Players keep walking off the court before the song starts, brushing it off as just part of their normal pregame routine.
But that hasn’t stopped people from calling out star players like Angel Reese, especially considering she just represented the country and brought home gold for USA Basketball.
For a lot of fans watching, seeing someone suit up for Team USA one day and then skip the anthem the next just doesn’t sit right, no matter how routine the players claim it is.
Angel Reese’s Team USA comments make it even more confusing
Making the Team USA roster and bringing home World Cup gold was a big moment for Angel Reese. She called representing the country a dream come true and made it clear how much wearing that jersey means to her, while insisting she’ll never stop using her voice on the bigger issues.
She said: “It’s an honor. To be one of 12, to be one of the best players in the U.S. and to be able to represent your country means a lot to me. It’s the dream that you want when you’re younger. It could have been anybody, and I’m just really happy I’m one of them.”
It’s wild watching players like Angel Reese talk about how much of an honor it is to rep Team USA, only to turn around and duck off the court for the national anthem during WNBA games.
And Riley Gaines is even suggesting they ban players who miss the national anthem from the upcoming Olympics, in an attempt to show some pride for the USA.
