Dibrugarh, Oct 16: Turning the devastation caused by floods in Assam into a message of hope and resilience, the Masterpara Durga Puja Committee in Dibrugarh has chosen ‘A Ray of Hope Amidst the Flood’ as its theme for this year’s celebrations.
The theme will highlight the destruction caused by floods in Assam, particularly in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, while recognising the courage and humanitarian efforts of rescue personnel who risk their lives to save people stranded in floodwaters.
One of Dibrugarh’s prominent Durga Puja celebrations, the Masterpara puja draws large crowds every year. This time, the committee aims to use its thematic presentation to bring the plight of flood-affected communities into focus and showcase the efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other rescue teams in carrying out evacuation operations.
Speaking about the theme, the president of the Masterpara Durga Puja Committee said the presentation would depict the widespread devastation caused by floods and the efforts of rescue personnel to save lives.
“This year, our theme is ‘A Ray of Hope Amidst the Flood’. We will showcase the destructive floods in Assam that have caused widespread devastation. However, our NDRF personnel and rescue teams have done a great job in rescuing numerous people from the floodwaters,” the president said.
Through the theme, the committee hopes to draw attention to the human cost of recurring floods in Assam while highlighting the spirit of solidarity that emerges during disasters.
The presentation will seek to convey a message that even amid widespread destruction and uncertainty, the efforts of rescue workers and the resilience of affected communities can offer a ray of hope.
By bringing a pressing environmental and humanitarian issue into its Durga Puja celebrations, the Masterpara committee aims to make this year’s festivities more than a cultural gathering, turning the pandal into a reminder of Assam’s continuing struggle with floods and the people who work tirelessly to protect lives.
