KARACHI: Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, has requested the replacement of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) representative nominated for the joint investigation team (JIT) probing his son’s murder, ARY News reported.
In a video statement, Mir Hussain thanked the Sindh government for forming the JIT but said he had learnt through the media that Arslan Manzoor had been nominated as the NCCIA representative.
He said Arslan Manzoor was a competent officer, but he wanted someone else to be appointed to the team.
Mir Hussain said the nominated officer had been working on the case for the past two months and had been pursuing the suicide narrative.
He stressed that an officer who had not previously worked on the case should be appointed to the JIT.
Mir Hussain said he wanted fresh officers to be nominated so the investigation could be conducted by people who had no prior involvement in the case.
Earlier, the Sindh government on Saturday ordered the suspension of Dr Osama Sheikh, the medico-legal officer (MLO) who conducted the initial post-mortem examination of Mir Raza Ali following observations in a judicial commission’s report into his death.
The Sindh Home Department has directed the relevant authorities to initiate departmental proceedings against Dr Osama. The judicial commission had reportedly described his conduct as immature and childish in its report.
Acting on the commission’s recommendations, the Home Department has also directed an inquiry against Special Secretary of Health Shehryar Gul Memon.
The Home Department has written to the chief secretary to ensure implementation of the recommendations contained in the judicial commission’s report on Mir Raza’s death.
