Renato Gaúcho BLASTED the very squad he has at his disposal at Grêmio following Sunday's (18th) defeat to Cruzeiro.
Still without a win since returning to the club, he pulled no punches when discussing the squad assembled by Grêmio's board.
"When you put a squad together, you have to know the players you're bringing in. Look at how many goals they've scored, how many games they've played, their injury history, their career. What their track record is like. Regardless of their technical ability, oh... sign him! (...) Someone comes along, whispers some sweet talk in your ear, oh... sign him! They started bringing in loads of players. Nobody had heard of them. Now they're here. So what now? Is that how you build a squad?"
"You don't build a squad that way. I always say the bill comes due. And it's coming due now. Next time, you need to know more about the players you bring in, about their track records. It has to go through people who understand football. Put people who know their stuff in charge of signings. The bill comes due."

He had already strongly criticized the number of foreign players in Grêmio's squad.
Renato began his fifth spell in charge of Grêmio following Luís Castro's departure.
And he has yet to turn the team's fortunes around in the Brasileirão.
Three draws and two defeats have helped push Grêmio into the relegation zone and kept them there.
They currently sit 18th with 31 points.
Corinthians (32), the first team outside the relegation zone, have yet to play in this round.
And rivals Inter, in 17th, also have 31 points but a better goal difference.
