INDIANAPOLIS -- Will Blomberg thought about quitting.
Cross country or football promised more playing time. But Blomberg chose to return to the Covenant Christian soccer team for his senior year.
"My role on the soccer team is lifting other people up," Blomberg said. "I knew my minutes may be limited coming into the year. … I was deeply thinking about playing football or running cross country because I would have more minutes.
"But ultimately, I felt like I needed to take a leadership role and build other people up. And if that meant not playing a ton, then that was something I'd have to do. I want to work as hard as I can, and at the same time, push others to be the best that they can, and also grow my faith continually."
Blomberg discusses how faith and leadership influence his attitude and approach in the first episode of "Bench Stories," a video series in which IndyStar highlights athletes who impact their teams from off the bench.
Covenant Christian will play at Connersville in a regional semifinal matchup Thursday at 6 p.m.
