Nigeria and Poland are exploring stronger defence cooperation, particularly in border security and technology transfer, to enhance military operations and regional security.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede and the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Michał Cygan, discussed the areas during a meeting at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
This is contained in a statement by the Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, on Wednesday in Abuja.
In his remarks, the ambassador commended the professionalism, resilience and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
Mr Cygan noted that Nigeria’s strategic geographical position and sustained security engagements were vital to peace and stability in West Africa and beyond.
He described Nigeria as a crucial stabilising force in the sub-region and identified opportunities for both countries to deepen cooperation and exchange expertise.
“Nigeria’s strategic position and sustained security engagements have continued to contribute significantly to peace and stability in the region,” he said.
Responding, Mr Oluyede thanked the ambassador for the visit and stressed the need to expand defence cooperation in areas that would directly support ongoing military operations.
He identified border security and technology transfer as priority areas, citing Poland’s experience in border management and security.
The CDS expressed readiness to sustain engagement with Polish defence stakeholders to strengthen bilateral military relations.
The visit formed part of ongoing engagements by the Polish envoy to strengthen defence and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Poland.
