(ANSA) - ROME, 20 OTT - Deputy Premier, Transport Minister and right-wing League party leader Matteo Salvini said 500 troops would be deployed to Milan after the weekend's shocking youth riots there and there would also be a halt to citizenship rights for minors who riot after the government approved a new decree on secyrity and youth crime Tuesday.
"AS OF TONIGHT, IT'S LAW! More military personnel for the 'Safe Streets' [Strade Sicure] operation—with 500 already deployed in Milan—the introduction of deferred arrests based on camera footage, and expanded powers for the armed forces and law enforcement.
"Looking ahead, we will also move forward with revoking the citizenship and residence permits of adults who commit crimes, and barring minors who engage in drug dealing, looting, or acts of destruction from ever obtaining citizenship. If you do wrong, you pay.
"ecause someone who smashes a shop window or attacks a sales assistant isn't a revolutionary—they're just an asshole." (ANSA).
