HYDERABAD
Deputy Leader of the BRS Legislature Party T. Harish Rao has criticised the State Government for fleecing people with double fare for travel in RTC buses this festive season.
“Instead of extending some goodies to people during the Bathukamma and Dasara festivities the government is collecting double fare from people travelling to villages by turning the regular buses as special services and reducing the number of regular services.” Citing an example, he stated that the regular fare for travel from JBS to Karimnagar would be ₹230, but the government had made RTC collect ₹400 now in the name of special buses.
“Similarly, the regular fare from travel to Mahabubnagar from MGBS would be ₹220, but the passengers were being made to cough up ₹290 now. The RTC had increased the fare on all routers and taken out the festive enthusiasm from people.”He sought to know how the government would justify collection of double fare for regular bus services by simply displaying the “special” board in them.
“The government was offering free travel facility to women passengers but collecting double fare from their men [family members],” he said. He pointed out that the RTC had already increased fares five time during the last three years. He demanded that the government withdraw the increased fare in the name of festival specials and run regular services instead.
