The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers in separate operations and recovered three locally made guns and eight live cartridges.
The command disclosed this in a Thursday statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the statement, in the first operation, operatives of Orerokpe Division on October 11, acting on credible intelligence from the Civilian Anti-Cult Group, Osubi, regarding suspected armed robbers operating in a tricycle along Osubi Road, mobilised with civilian anti-cult operatives and local vigilantes to intercept the suspects.
The operation led to the arrest of Musa Haruna, 22, and Mubarack Abdulahi, 20, who were intercepted in a tricycle with registration number BDG 429 QN.
A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled shotgun, seven live cartridges and one jackknife.
Edafe said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were allegedly members of a criminal syndicate involved in robbing and abducting unsuspecting passengers and compelling them to transfer money from their bank accounts.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate,” the police spokesman stated.
In the second operation, on October 12, following a distress call concerning an attempted armed robbery at Alifekede Village, operatives of Agbor Division swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested one Paul Francis, 25.
The suspect allegedly attempted to rob a woman and stabbed her on the forehead, inflicting serious injuries before he was apprehended.
The police spokesman said one locally made cut-to-size gun and one kitchen knife were recovered from him.
He added that the victim was taken to a medical facility where she is responding to treatment.
In the third incident, also on October 12, operatives of Otu-Jeremi Division, acting on intelligence in connection with a case of stealing reported on October 10 at Okwagbe Waterside Community, arrested one Bruno Jonathan.
The complaint involved the stealing of a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, an Infinix mobile phone and the sum of N2 million from the residence of a female victim.
A search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size gun and one live cartridge.
Edafe disclosed that further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Merit Solomon and Edna Iboyi.
The suspects are in police custody while investigation continues.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for their prompt response and effective collaboration with community security stakeholders, and reiterated the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and recover illegally possessed firearms.
