The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has sought rooftop information from all offices, agencies and educational institutions under the Ministry of Education to facilitate the installation of rooftop solar panels ahead of the upcoming summer season.
The institutions have been instructed to submit details, including the usable rooftop area, dimensions and approved electrical load, within the next two working days, according to a DSHE directive issued here today (17 October).
In line with a decision by the power division, a target was set to generate 3,000 to 4,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from rooftop solar before the next summer season, it said."To achieve the target, feasibility assessments and data collection are underway to identify suitable rooftops for solar panel installation at institutions under secondary and higher and technical and madrasah education divisions," the directive said.
The DSHE also instructed the heads of all its offices, agencies and educational institutions to urgently provide required information through a designated online form.
Earlier, the ministry of education, DSHE, University Grants Commission (UGC), education boards and educational institutions across the country were requested to submit information about buildings under their respective jurisdictions in a prescribed format.
