The City of Windhoek has cancelled the 2026 Windhoek City Kapana Festival scheduled for 30 October due to the ongoing foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak and related veterinary control measures.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the city says the decision was a precautionary measure to support efforts to contain the disease.
“The cancellation is due to the prevailing FMD outbreak and associated veterinary control measures,” the notice reads.
The festival, which centres on the preparation, sale and consumption of meat, has been postponed to 2027. The new date has not yet been confirmed and will depend on the veterinary control measures in place at the time.
The city has expressed regret over the cancellation and thanks vendors, stakeholders, residents and the public for their understanding and cooperation.
