Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Bills fans and fans across the country.
The Buffalo Bills’ bye week is upon us, and there’s plenty to discuss in the absence of a game this coming weekend. The Bills share a lead as the NFL’s top scoring offense through six weeks, averaging 32.8 points per game. The offense is also currently ranked first in pass yards per play, and second in yards per play, as well pass yards per play. Things haven’t missed a beat on that side of the ball following Joe Brady’s promotion to head coach.
It’s Buffalo’s defense that could stand to improve, currently ranked 28th in points given up per game, plus 31st in both yards given up per game and pass yards given up per game. Despite improvements against the run and an eye test in Week 6 that revealed an improved pass defense, the Bills have a lot of work to do before even thinking about the playoffs.
In giving up nearly 29 points per game, Buffalo’s defense currently needs quarterback Josh Allen and the offense to put up almost 33 points a game just to walk off the field with a win. It’s not sustainable, and hardly a winning formula in the postseason.
It’s interesting to think how good the offense may be with wide receiver DJ Moore healthy, and tight end Dalton Kincaid able to avoid the myriad of injuries that occasionally sideline him. Yet wide receiver Keon Coleman has really stepped up where needed, functioning well as the team’s leading receiver in recent weeks, and as a true complement to wide receiver Khalil Shakir.
The Bills did make a move to bring back cornerback Tre’Davious White following the win in Las Vegas this past weekend. White, now 31, brings plenty of experience once again to One Bills Drive, but the system is entirely new under defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard. White will eventually be signed to the team’s 53-man active roster, once he’s acclimated and ready for game speed.
Will White’s addition pay needed dividends for the Bills’ defensive backfield? How do you grade the signing of White, and how are you feeling about this 5-1 team and its direction heading into the bye week?
