On Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that veteran linebacker Germaine Pratt has been elevated to the practice squad, along with cornerback Kenneth Harris just ahead of their Week 7 road matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Regarding Pratt, it comes after rookie linebacker CJ Allen (ankle) has been downgraded to out for Sunday, with fellow rookie linebacker Bryce Boettcher (groin) still questionable.
The 30-year-old Pratt was signed to the Colts practice squad a little less than two weeks ago, after somewhat surprisingly remaining unsigned as a veteran free agent all offseason.
After being released by the Las Vegas Raiders after the first 4 starts in 2025, Pratt was quickly signed by the Colts, where he recorded 101 tackles (57 solo), an interception, 8 passes defensed, a forced fumble, and 2 fumble recoveries during 12 ensuing starts with Indianapolis last year.
To his credit, Pratt actually helped shore up some of the Colts early lackluster starting linebacker play and was actually a positive in run defense, even if he’s conversely, a bit slow of foot in pass coverage.
Given the Colts recent injuries and rather underwhelming play at the starting linebacker position again, Pratt was recently signed as veteran insurance and has rejoined Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo yet again. The pairing dates back to their days together in Cincinnati defensively.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Pratt play a pivotal role again for the Colts this season.
Meanwhile, Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez (right foot), who sustained a big hit during a blocked punt in last Sunday’s brutal loss, will be available in Minnesota—as Indianapolis cut ties with grizzled veteran punter Thomas Morstead from their practice squad, who was signed as another veteran insurance policy earlier in the week.
The 24-year-old Harris, who was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent earlier this past offseason, has appeared in 1 game for Indianapolis so far this season, recording a single tackle.
