Following the departure of Maryland football head coach Michael Locksley, several recruits have decommitted from the Terps, leaving the program’s recruiting classes uncertain.
Locksley was dismissed from his role after a 2-5 start, which includes a five-game losing streak, heading into the bye week.
The beginning of the search for a new head coach has created a domino effect of recruits announcing their decommitment from Maryland.
Departures started with four-star running back Jerome Larue blazing the trail. Larue, the No.19-ranked running back from Central York, PA, was Maryland’s lone class of 2028 recruit before reopening his recruitment.

Multiple former commits continued to follow the same trend, many of whom cited Locksley as the pull factor towards College Park.
Three-star offensive tackle Caleb Canty — who had teased earlier in the week a possible recommitment to Florida State — withdrew his commitment to Maryland after the announcement of Locksley’s departure.

More future prospects who were expected to add depth to the Terps’ offensive line followed suit. Among them was three-star Abdus Kone, who visited UTSA over the weekend.

“I have nothing but respect and appreciation for Coach Locksley and the Maryland staff,” Graham said. “The news is definitely something I need time to process.”

On the flip side, three-star commit Mason McClure announced his loyalty to the Terps, expressing his gratitude for Locksley.
I’ll never forget the day Coach Locksley offered me. He & his staff believed in me/supported me at every turn. Coach Locks helped me fall in love with Maryland, the program, and the people.
