The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, on Thursday received Export Trading Group (ETG) Chief Commercial Officer Graham Hewlett at his office. Hewlett expressed ETG’s interest in investing in natural gas-based fertiliser production in Mozambique, with the aim of becoming the leading producer of this agricultural input in sub-Saharan Africa.
“We are here to explore gas for fertilisers, to become the leading fertiliser producer in sub-Saharan Africa. So, this is our mission here in Mozambique,” Graham Hewlett said in remarks to the press after the meeting.
The official recalled that ETG has been present in Mozambique for more than 40 years and noted that the group operates Falcon Steel, its sales, marketing and distribution channel for products manufactured by ETG Steel Solutions. He also described ETG as Mozambique’s largest fertiliser importer.
“So, we are here to develop Mozambique a little further,” he said, reiterating the group’s interest in contributing to national economic development through new investments.
Regarding the meeting with the Head of State, Hewlett said the group had received support to move forward with the natural gas-based fertiliser production project, expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting.
“It was great. He gave us his support; we have all the support possible from His Excellency, President Chapo. The meeting was excellent,” he said.
ETG is an integrated multinational conglomerate with operations in more than 48 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East.
Its activities cover the supply of agricultural inputs and fertilisers, commodity trading and processing, as well as the steel, building materials, logistics, infrastructure, energy and metals sectors.
The proposed investment would expand ETG’s operations in Mozambique into fertiliser production using the country’s natural gas resources.
