Coach Lionel Scolani is reportedly set for a contract extension to lead Argentina into the post-Lionel Messi era.
La Nación paper said that "only the signature is missing" while Clarín said a little more cautiously that Scolani and Argentina FA president Claudio Tapia have made progress in both parties' aim for a renewal until the 2030 World Cup.
The reports said that Scaloni could receive a contract until the Copa America in 2028 with an option to renew it until 2030 World Cup which includes one match in Argentina.
Scolani, 48, was appointed in 2018 and led the team captained by Messi to the 2022 World Cup title and the 2026 final, plus Copa America success in 2021 and 2024.
Messi has now retired from the national team while Scolani had at first left it open whether he would renew his contract which expires at the end of the year.
