Nvidia Pledges Additional $2 Billion for European AI Ecosystem

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has unveiled plans to invest an additional $2 billion, or approximately 2.7 trillion won, to expand Europe’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. Following $8 billion in investment across Europe over the past year, the move represents a major capital commitment aimed at driving demand for Nvidia’s products and supporting regional AI sovereignty.
Huang met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Oct. 13 (local time) and disclosed specific investment targets. The recipients include Doctolib, a medical software company, and French AI startups such as Genesis AI, Pigment and Entalpic. Huang emphasized that Europe must make greater use of open-source models that can be tailored to individual countries’ languages and sovereignty needs to close the gap with the United States.
In the United Kingdom, Nvidia announced support to strengthen AI safety and governance capabilities. The company plans to provide $250 million worth of computing resources to the UK over the next five years. The resources will support AI safety research and the development of agent-control technologies at major research institutions, including the University of Oxford and University College London (UCL).
Addressing safety concerns that have accompanied the technology’s rapid spread, Huang took a firm stance. In an interview in London on Oct. 14, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told Bloomberg that when asked whether he would cut off chip supplies to irresponsible AI developers, he said he hypothetically would. However, he said dialogue should precede any actual action and acknowledged the limits of intervening in how customers use a general-purpose technology.
Huang also pushed back against calls to slow AI development, recently raised by executives at companies including Anthropic and OpenAI. Rather than slowing development over safety concerns, he argued, the focus should be on accelerating the development of risk-mitigation technologies and monitoring systems. He said ensuring safety is itself an engineering challenge and that improving AI performance and ensuring safety should not be treated as separate issues.
On concerns in some market circles that AI investment may be in a bubble, Huang expressed strong confidence. He said demand for AI infrastructure continues to outstrip supply and that AI-driven productivity gains and profitability are increasingly reflected in measurable results. In particular, he said the cost per AI token is falling by a factor of 30 to 40 each year, allowing customers to reap exponentially greater benefits and reinforcing a virtuous cycle of growth.
Anthropic, one of Nvidia’s key customers, reported third-quarter revenue of $16.8 billion, up 50% from the previous quarter, and recorded its second consecutive profitable quarter. Huang cited such results as evidence that the AI boom is unlikely to lose momentum in the near term. He identified physical AI, including humanoid robots, as Nvidia’s next major market and reaffirmed his commitment to continued technological innovation.
