- She pleaded guilty to the latter two offences, with the charges relating to uttering a false document brought under Section 353 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code, and presenting a forged certificate under Section 34(a) of the Kenya National Examinations Council Act.
A former accountant at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA) has been fined Ksh.130,000 after pleading guilty to offences involving falsified academic documents used to secure employment.
Lilian Mweche Muyumba was convicted by the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on October 19, 2026, after admitting to two charges under a plea agreement with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Magistrate Ndombi fined Muyumba Ksh.30,000 for uttering a false document and Ksh.100,000 for presenting a forged KCSE certificate.
The court ordered that she would serve one year in prison if she failed to pay the first fine and two years for the second offence.
Investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) established that Muyumba submitted a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate for examinations she purportedly sat in 1996 at Moi Girls Secondary School, Nangili, to secure employment at NuPEA.
She had initially faced three charges: forgery of a KCSE certificate, uttering a false document and presenting a forged certificate.
She pleaded guilty to the latter two offences, with the charges relating to uttering a false document brought under Section 353 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code, and presenting a forged certificate under Section 34(a) of the Kenya National Examinations Council Act.
The EACC welcomed the conviction, saying the outcome would serve as a deterrent to individuals who engage in similar criminal conduct.
