Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Langrial has ruled out outsourcing the board’s field offices to private companies for tax collection, according to sources. An FBR spokesperson also dismissed reports that the government was considering handing over Inland Revenue or Customs offices to private firms, calling them baseless.
The spokesperson clarified that no domestic or international tender had been issued for outsourcing any FBR field office. The board is currently working on reforms and organisational changes aimed at improving its operations, with details to be shared once final decisions are made.
However, proposals to outsource Inland Revenue and Customs offices were reportedly discussed at a meeting several days ago as part of the FBR’s reform process. According to reports, consultants from international firms had suggested the move to improve revenue collection.
The outsourcing proposal has been put on hold for now, sources said. The FBR is continuing its reform process, while the future direction of organisational changes remains subject to final decisions.
