OK Savings Bank has confirmed that the personal information of 250 customers was leaked in a recent hacking incident.
The bank said on the 15th that a detailed investigation by two outside security firms concluded that data belonging to 250 customers who used the loan application service on its website had been exposed. The leaked information includes names, dates of birth, mobile phone numbers, account numbers, addresses, email addresses, employer names, business registration numbers, annual income and loan amounts.
The attack lasted about five hours and 30 minutes, from 8:44 p.m. on the 11th to 2:14 a.m. on the 12th. OK Savings Bank detected the abnormal access at around 10 a.m. on the 12th, roughly eight hours after the attack ended, and blocked the suspected IP addresses and access routes. It then reported the possible leak of customer information to the Financial Supervisory Service on the 13th.
The bank has notified affected customers individually by text message and email and is operating a help desk for inquiries. No further irregularities have been detected so far, and the bank said it plans to review its entire security system and strengthen measures to prevent a recurrence.
"We take this data leak very seriously and deeply apologize for the concern caused to customers who have trusted and used our services," an OK Savings Bank official said. "We will use this incident as an opportunity to comprehensively review our personal information protection framework and overall security system, and we will do our utmost to strengthen security to prevent any recurrence."
