DIMAPUR: National People’s Party (NPP), Kohima District Unit, has strongly condemned the recent defection of its MLAs to the Naga People’s Front (NPF), terming the move as “political suicide” and a trap.
In a press statement, NPP Kohima district president Dr. Keviseto Kintso described the defection as a clear case of political poaching orchestrated by the Rio led government. The unit termed the act as undemocratic, unethical and an exercise in muscle flexing aimed at signalling strength to the central BJP leadership.
Stating that poaching of NPP councillors and MLAs with false promises had become habitual under the present government, the unit said such practices were unfortunate and against democratic principles.
The district unit, however, asserted that opportunistic politics would not dampen the morale of its grassroots workers and reaffirmed that its position in Kohima remained undeterred.
The District Executive, in its meeting, unanimously resolved to reinforce its commitment to party principles based on public desire for change in the present system.
Reaffirming its pan Northeast vision, the party expressed confidence that it would emerge stronger across the region and especially in Nagaland. “The NPP is a people centric party. Such defections cannot weaken our resolve. We will come back stronger in the entire Northeast and especially in Nagaland,” it added.
