Kathmandu, Oct 12: Nearly three million Nepalis have issues related to rheumatism. Dr Buddhi Paudel, head of the Arogya Swasthya Sadan Nepal, Arthritis Treatment Centre, shared this information in a programme today.
At a programme organized by the Nepal Arthritis-Friendly Society on the occasion of World Arthritis Day today, he shared that arthritis affects people of all age groups. He mentioned that if the disease is not treated in time, the joints of the body can become deformed, malformed, and permanently weak.
Dr. Keshav Sigdel, a rheumatism specialist at Patan Hospital, mentioned that arthritis patients experience more pain in the winter season and that the number of these patients has rapidly increased in recent years.
He said that most people treat gout only as 'uric acid' or a common joint pain problem and urged them to treat this condition in time.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been celebrating this day worldwide every year on October 12 with various programmes. The theme of the World Arthritis Day 2026 is - "Achieve Your Dreams."
