Charleston, W.Va.-based Vandalia Health and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation, a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based nonprofit rehabilitation system, broke ground in early October on an about $50 million rehabilitation hospital in Charleston.
Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation at Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center will be part of the CAMC General Hospital Campus and will connect to the CAMC Outpatient Surgery Center via skywalk to streamline access between service lines, according to an Oct. 8 news release.
The organizations announced a joint operating agreement nearly two years ago to enhance CAMC General Hospital’s rehabilitation services.
The three-story hospital will comprise more than 93,000 square feet. It will feature a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit across two floors, outpatient therapy and rehabilitation services, rehabilitation physician specialty clinics, orthotics, prosthetics and bionics services, rehabilitation technology, an outdoor therapy garden and additional space for patients, family and clinical support.
The hospital is expected to be complete in early 2029, with patients beginning care shortly thereafter.
