The Biman Bangladesh Airlines has extended the suspension of all flights from Dhaka to Riyadh and Dammam until 18 October, citing passenger safety concerns amid ongoing attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia.
In a press release today (15 October), the national flag carrier said the decision was taken in view of the airport attacks in Saudi Arabia.
The airline said it would announce updates on the resumption of the flights and revised schedules in due course.
Passengers needing to travel to Saudi Arabia or return to Bangladesh can use Jeddah and Madinah international airports, according to the release.
Based on passenger demand, Biman has replaced the Boeing 787 on its Madinah route with a Boeing 777, increasing capacity by 148 seats per flight. It has also arranged three additional flights on the Jeddah route.
Passengers seeking ticketing and travel-related information have been advised to contact their nearest Biman sales centre.
Earlier on 13 October, Biman had suspended all flights from Dhaka to Riyadh and Dammam until 17 October.
Meanwhile, US-Bangla Airlines has suspended all its Dhaka-Riyadh-Dhaka flights until 21 October following the closure of Riyadh airport amid repeated Houthi attacks.
According to media reports, airport operations in Saudi Arabia have been suspended and resumed several times following a series of attacks originating from Yemen.
The disruptions have affected air connectivity between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, creating uncertainty for passengers travelling between the two countries.
