Kansas City Improves to 5-0 With Convincing AFC West Victory
The Kansas City Chiefs continued their impressive start to the 2026 NFL season Sunday, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City controlled the division matchup from the opening quarter, using a powerful rushing attack and a dominant defensive performance to remain undefeated at 5-0.
While the Chiefs were not perfect offensively, they did enough to secure another important victory. The Chargers, meanwhile, continued their disappointing season, falling to 0-6 after another frustrating performance on offense.
Kenneth Walker Leads the Way
Running back Kenneth Walker III delivered the biggest performance of the afternoon, rushing for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Walker gave Kansas City an early advantage with a spectacular 33 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, breaking through the defense and sprinting into the end zone.
He added a two-yard touchdown run late in the first half, helping the Chiefs establish a commanding 19-3 lead before halftime. His ability to create explosive plays on the ground gave Kansas City control and forced Los Angeles to play from behind.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also had a productive afternoon, throwing for 272 yards while completing 23 of 30 passes. Although Mahomes did not throw a touchdown and was intercepted in the end zone, he managed the offense effectively and helped the Chiefs maintain their advantage.
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy led Kansas City with 73 receiving yards, while tight end Travis Kelce contributed five catches for 53 yards.
Chiefs Defense Shuts Down Los Angeles
Kansas City’s defense played a major role in the victory, consistently putting pressure on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. The Chiefs recorded four sacks and forced Los Angeles into difficult situations throughout the game.
Herbert finished with 204 passing yards and an interception, failing to throw a touchdown. The Chargers struggled to turn promising drives into points, including a second-half possession that reached the Kansas City one yard line before penalties and incomplete passes forced them to settle for a field goal.
Los Angeles managed only two field goals, scoring all six of its points through kicker Cameron Dicker.
Kansas City Remains a Super Bowl Contender
The victory keeps Kansas City among the NFL’s remaining undefeated teams and strengthens its position atop the AFC West. However, the Chiefs still have room to improve after missed scoring opportunities and an interception.
Kansas City will look to carry its momentum into next Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. With Walker establishing himself as a major weapon and Mahomes continuing to lead the offense, the Chiefs are building another promising season.
