BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday accused opposition parties of staging fresh political dramas on the streets to conceal their internal conflicts and failures, alleging that they were misleading the public instead of playing a constructive role in addressing the country’s challenges.
“Whenever you open a newspaper, you see the opposition parties only talking about what is lacking and what has ended. They have no concern for the country’s development or people’s welfare,” he said.
Rizvi, also the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser, made the remarks while addressing a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka at noon.
The Jatiyatabadi Textile Engineers Association of Bangladesh (JTEB) organised the rally to protest what it described as planned anarchy and conspiracies by the Awami League across the country.
Rizvi alleged that opposition parties were searching for new excuses to launch street movements and organising political programmes to divert public attention from growing divisions within their ranks.
He referred to previous long marches and fresh programmes being planned over issues including the July National Charter, saying conflicting statements from opposition alliance partners had exposed their internal disagreements.
The BNP leader also criticised opposition parties for what he described as their tendency to find fault with the government’s initiatives, including the Family Card, Farmer Card, Expatriate Card and Health Card programmes.
“You may criticise the government, but speak the truth and make reasonable arguments. If you try to mislead people with falsehoods, they will never believe you,” he said.
Rizvi claimed that people were increasingly questioning whether the opposition’s political activities were intended to conceal internal conflicts that had become visible in different parts of the country.
Turning to the country’s fertiliser supply situation, he said the government was working continuously to maintain supplies despite ongoing challenges.
He said Bangladesh had arranged fertiliser imports from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with a shipment from the UAE already arriving at Mongla port.
According to Rizvi, the government was taking steps to address fertiliser shortages that had been anticipated and had affected supplies in some areas.
He added that another shipment from Saudi Arabia was being prepared and was expected to arrive within the next few days.
Highlighting the importance of adequate fertiliser supplies ahead of the winter cultivation season, Rizvi said farmers would require sufficient fertiliser to grow potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages and cauliflowers.
He maintained that the government had already taken necessary measures to support agricultural production and ensure fertiliser availability during the upcoming season.
Rizvi urged opposition parties to engage in responsible political activities and offer constructive criticism rather than spreading what he described as misleading information about government initiatives.
