Self-proclaimed political fixer Brown Mogotsi is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday as his defence prepares to challenge the State’s response to its request for further particulars in a criminal case linked to an alleged staged shooting in Vosloorus.
Mogotsi faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, perjury and defeating the ends of justice. The charges stem from an alleged shooting incident in November 2025, when he reportedly told police that he had been attacked.
The state says the incident was staged, with Mogotsi himself firing at his vehicle.
The matter was postponed to October 23 during his previous court appearance on October 7, to allow the defence to pursue an application compelling the State to provide further information it says is necessary to prepare for trial.
His lawyers have sought additional information, including cellphone, employment and residential records linked to State witnesses, as well as unredacted witness statements and images extracted from footage of the alleged shooting.
Mogotsi has been in custody since his arrest on May 15, shortly after appearing before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating allegations of criminality and political interference in the criminal justice system.
He has been denied bail four times, with previous applications and a challenge in the Gauteng High Court unsuccessful.
His criminal case remains separate from the allegations aired at the Madlanga Commission, where witnesses have made claims about his alleged links to individuals in political and law-enforcement circles.
