THE 2026 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations began on Tuesday, with four pupils from Sastri College in Durban sitting for Hindi paper 1.
Bhavik Rampatha, 18, Aarush Mohunlal Dukkan, 17, Luveer Vibhav Ramnarain, 18, and Queron Moodley, 18, said they were excited and nervous at the start of the exam, but relieved when they finished two hours later.
The pupils said they had prepared well for the exams and would give their best.
Bhavik hopes to study supply chain management so that he can run his family business, with information technology (IT) as a second option.
Aarush wants to get into the cyber security field, as more jobs are opening up in the market, while Luveer is deciding on architecture or civil engineering studies.
Queron is mulling over IT or going to business school.
The boys, who celebrate Diwali on Sunday, November 8, said they would celebrate the Festival of Lights without fear of an exam paper the next day.
According to the Department of Basic Education’s timetable, November 9 is a non-examination day.
Santhosh Rajcoomar, the school principal, wished the pupils well over the next six weeks.
“Keep your chin up high and do the best that you can. We have given them all the support we can. Now is the time for them to make it happen for themselves.”
On Wednesday, the pupils will write the information technology (paper 1) and languages.
The final paper will be on November 26.
