Panthers' JJ Jansen Makes Unique NFL History in Eagles Game

The Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles faced off Sunday in a critical game for both NFC teams.

Carolina entered at 2-2 after beating the Detroit Lions 32-26 in Week 4 before enjoying a bye week. A win would move the Panthers above .500 and help them maintain their position atop the NFC South. Philadelphia, meanwhile, entered at 2-3 on a three-game losing streak and without franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts.

With the Eagles desperate to turn things around and the Panthers looking to strengthen their hold on the division, Sunday's matchup carried plenty of weight for both sides. But the game also featured a historic milestone for Carolina's long snapper, J.J. Jansen. With his appearance on Sunday, Jansen played in his 282nd career NFL game, setting the record for the most appearances by a long snapper in league history.

Jansen has been a reliable presence in Carolina since 2009. He originally signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent before joining the Panthers the following year, and has spent his entire 18-year NFL career in Carolina, building a strong reputation for dependability in one of football's most specialized positions.

A long snapper's job is to deliver accurate snaps on punts and field goals, often under pressure, and avoid costly mistakes. But their impact doesn't show up on the scoreboard, so they rarely receive much attention. Still, for Jansen to have held the position for 282 career games is a massive accomplishment.

A win on Sunday, and Carolina would head into Week 7 as the team to beat in the NFC South. A win for Philadelphia, meanwhile, would give a much-needed boost to a team that's been devastated by injury. Regardless of who wins, though, Jansen's record is a rare achievement that highlights his value of longevity and consistency in the NFL.
