Prepare for your houses to be filled with the sound of supercharged V-8 engines thundering down your neighborhood streets once again. The 2028 model year is slated to herald the return of the Hemi supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 to the Dodge Charger lineup, internal documents obtained by MoparInsiders show.

2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee
Welcome back to the roads, Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat; you have been missed. According to the report, the document shows that the Hellcat powertrain will be made available for the four-door Charger sedan as well as the two-door coupe. In either form factor, the powerplant will be mated to the ZF 8HP95 eight-speed automatic transmission. Perhaps most excitingly, though, is that the document also reports that unlike the Hurricane-powered Chargers of today, which come standard with an all-wheel-drive layout, the Hellcat Chargers are being developed as rear-drivers.
The document shows that the 2028 lineup will retain the 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six in three configurations. The 420-hp Standard Output is back, as are the 550-hp High Output and 600-hp High-Output plus (Super Bee) variants. They’ll be joined by the Charger Daytona’s electric offerings, and rounded out with the return of the supercharged 6.2-liter SRT engine.
Sadly, the document leaves the 6.2’s specs a mystery. One possibility is that Dodge brings the Hellcat Hemi back unchanged. That would mean a stout 717 horsepower. Another entirely plausible option is for Dodge to fit the flagship Charger with the updated 777-hp version of the 6.2 found in the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX pickup.
Car and Driver reached out to Dodge for confirmation of the internal document and its content, but we haven’t heard back at the time of publishing. We will update this story if we learn more.
