Sharks vs Stormers in Durban on 5 December

GUIDES · DURBAN

Two of South Africa’s best-known rugby franchises meet again in Durban in early December, two months after the Stormers won the first derby of the season in Cape Town. Tickets are on sale from under US$5, and every minute streams live in the United States.

Sharks vs Stormers in Durban is set for Saturday 5 December 2026 at Hollywoodbets Kings Park, with kick-off at 17:00 local time, according to the Sharks’ official match page and its ticket seller, Ticketpro. The game is Round 6 of the United Rugby Championship (URC) and is the return leg of a derby the Stormers won 39-22 at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday 10 October.

For US fans the match is a chance to see a large share of the world champion Springbok squad on one field, on a Saturday morning slot that suits American viewers. FloRugby lists the kick-off at 10:00 ET and says it streams every URC match of the season in the United States.

What the Match Is and Why It Matters to US Readers

The URC is a cross-border league of 16 professional teams from Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Italy and South Africa, which joined in 2021. The top eight after Round 18 go through to the quarter-finals, according to the Sharks’ standings page.

The Sharks are the Durban-based franchise for KwaZulu-Natal, while the Stormers represent Cape Town and the Western Cape. Both sides are built around Springboks, the South African national team that won the last two Rugby World Cups, in 2019 and 2023.

The October meeting showed what is at stake. The Stormers scored six tries to three in front of what the club called a full house, and Springbok flanker Siya Kolisi started for the home side.

Before that game the Sharks had beaten the Stormers 36-24 in Durban on Saturday 31 January 2026, which the club lists as its biggest win in their URC meetings. The Sharks’ record page lists ten URC meetings since January 2022, with six Stormers wins, three Sharks wins and one draw, and still names the January game as the last meeting.

After three rounds the Stormers sat fourth on the table with 11 points and the Sharks fifth with 10, according to the Sharks’ standings. Two more rounds are played before December, so both teams may arrive in Durban with a different place in the race for a home quarter-final.

Schedule and Kick-Off Times

The match starts at 17:00 South African Standard Time, which is UTC+2 with no daylight saving. US Eastern Time moves back to standard time on Sunday 1 November, so the gap on 5 December is seven hours and the kick-off is 10:00 ET.

That makes it 9:00 in Chicago, 8:00 in Denver and 7:00 on the West Coast. FloRugby’s schedule lists the Lions against the Bulls in Johannesburg earlier the same day, so US viewers can watch two South African derbies back to back.

The Sharks have not yet published gate opening times for this match. Check the club’s match page and the official ticket site closer to the date for final matchday details.

How to Buy Tickets

Tickets are sold through the Sharks’ official ticket site, tickets.thesharks.co.za, which is operated by Ticketpro. The Sharks’ match page sets the full price for the centre blocks of the western lower stand at R350 (about US$21) and the main North Stand blocks at R125 (about US$7.60).

The cheapest seats, in areas such as the South Stand and the scholar zone, cost R75 (about US$4.50) full price or R45 (about US$2.70) during the early-bird phase. The club says early-bird prices are 40% lower, do not apply to the west gold or Kingston areas, and that match-day prices are 10% higher.

Season-ticket holders already have their seats reserved, according to the club. Buy only through the official site, as listings on social media or messaging apps are a common way to lose money on fake tickets.

Prices on this page were converted at the South African Reserve Bank rate of R16.54 per US dollar on 12 October 2026. Card payments are charged in rand, so your bank’s own rate and any foreign transaction fee will change the final amount slightly.

Getting There

Hollywoodbets Kings Park stands in Stamford Hill, a short drive north of central Durban and the beachfront hotels. International visitors fly into King Shaka International Airport, north of the city, usually with a connection in Johannesburg or another hub.

The Sharks say full matchday information is coming soon, so details on parking, shuttles and road closures are not yet published. A dispatched taxi or a ride-hailing app is the simplest option for most visitors, and it helps to agree on a pickup point before the final whistle.

Early December is the start of summer in Durban, so expect warm, humid weather and the chance of a late-afternoon storm. Bring sun protection for the first half and a light rain jacket for the walk out.

The same weekend also brings the Cape Town Sevens at DHL Stadium on 5 and 6 December, so rugby travellers could combine both cities. For another big derby earlier in the season, see our guide to the Soweto Derby in Johannesburg on 31 October.

Safety and Costs for Visitors

The US State Department rates South Africa at Level 2, exercise increased caution, in an advisory dated 27 May 2025 and last updated on 11 August 2025. It cites crime, terrorism, unrest and kidnapping as the main risks.

The department advises visitors to avoid walking alone after dark, to keep valuables out of sight and to drive with doors locked and windows closed. It recommends reputable dispatched taxis, hotel cabs or tour buses and warns that minibus taxis are often unlicensed and unsafe.

US citizens do not need a visa for stays of less than 90 days. You must, however, arrive with two consecutive blank visa pages in your passport, and the State Department warns that travellers without them can be refused entry.

Match tickets are a small part of the budget, since many seats cost less than US$15 even at full price. Flights and hotels near the beachfront are the larger expense, so book early for a weekend that also has the Cape Town Sevens.

What Is Not Confirmed Yet

The Sharks have not yet published gate times, parking or shuttle arrangements for 5 December. Team line-ups are named in the week of the match, so it is not known which Springboks will play.

The club has not said when the early-bird price ends or whether the match is expected to sell out. Check the official ticket site for the live seat map, and treat any other price lists as unconfirmed.
