Nationals leader Matt Canavan is expected to make a move to the lower house, with Queensland MP Michelle Landry expected to announce her retirement from federal politics.
Ms Landry, who has represented the central Queensland seat of Capricornia since 2013, is expected to announce on Friday that she will not contest the next federal election.

Her departure would give Senator Canavan an opportunity to seek LNP preselection for the electorate ahead of the election due in 2028.
Senator Canavan, who lives in Yeppoon, has previously indicated he would consider moving to the lower house to strengthen the Nationals’ parliamentary representation.
“But if I’m required, if it is required to hold one more seat in the lower house somewhere, I will do it,” he told News24 earlier this month.

A move to Capricornia would also raise questions about who would replace Senator Canavan on the LNP’s Queensland Senate ticket.
But the smooth transition could be disrupted by One Nation, which is also eyeing off the seat.
One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson is reportedly looking to move her electorate office to Rockhampton.
Senator Canavan will hold a press conference later on Friday.
