AUTHORITIES have been urged to investigate an alleged case of sexual abuse involving a cat after a disturbing 55-second video purportedly showing the act went viral on social media.
The Stray Animals Malaysia Association (SAFM) called on the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Veterinary Services Department (DVS) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation.
In a statement, SAFM said the alleged act, if proven, would constitute serious animal cruelty and warrant firm legal action.
The association urged investigators to examine the possible application of Section 377 of the Penal Code and Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772), where applicable, as well as relevant laws governing communications and multimedia content.
It also called on authorities to identify the individual involved, verify the video's authenticity, establish the alleged location of the incident and secure all relevant digital evidence.
SAFM said immediate priority should be given to locating the cat, assessing its condition and ensuring its safety.
“Effective enforcement is essential to protect animal welfare and maintain public confidence in the protection afforded to animals under Malaysian law,” the association said.
It urged anyone with credible information, the original recording or other relevant evidence to assist the investigation.
SAFM also called on the authorities to act without delay, prioritise the animal's welfare and ensure that anyone found responsible faces appropriate legal action through a fair process.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the video remain to be established. - October 19, 2026
