All the newly elected chairmen across 21 local governments, 226 councillors and development areas administrators in Adamawa state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defections from the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) to the APC was contained in their resignation letters submitted to their various party wards chairmen on Monday .
In some of the letters sighted by Blueprint, they gave different reasons ranging from personal reasons and the need to align with Governor Ahmed Fintiri’s vision.
Blueprint reports that the defection that hits Adamawa PDP did not come to most people in the state as a surprise, as all the chairmen and councillors are loyalists of the Governor.
Following his defection to APC all the then incumbent chairmen who were already on their second term followed Fintiri to APC while those who had already emerged as PDP candidates in their various local Governments either going for their second term or contesting for the first term were directed to remained and contested in PDP.
When local government election was conducted in the state by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral commission ( ADSIEC) all of them were returned as duly elected chairmen and councillors in their various local governments until their decision to join Fintiri in APC.
Reacting to this development, Adamawa State PDP chairman, Elder Edmond Dogo said there was no cause for alarm as this will not affect the chances of the party in 2027.
He noted that politics is a game of interest and PDP is grounded in Adamawa state especially in the hearts of the people at the grassroots who will return the party back to power in 2027.
The chairman recalled that Fintiri won his election as Governor under PDP in 2019 without a single chairman, commissioner or any other political office holders.
Dogo further dismissed believe in some quarters that this will sparked massive defections out of the party, stressing that it would rather encouraged them to go back to the drawing board and strengthen the party further ahead of 2027.
