Malawian philanthropist Chawezi Banda, popularly known as ChaCha, is set for international recognition after being selected for a prestigious award celebrating Africans who are transforming lives through acts of service and compassion.

ChaCha will be honoured at the 2026 African Achievement Awards, scheduled for December 13 at the Hilton Seattle Airport Conference Centre in the United States.
Award organisers say she is being recognised for her unwavering commitment to helping vulnerable communities both in Malawi and beyond, as well as her leadership in creating meaningful change through philanthropy.
In announcing the honour, African Achievement Awards president Davies Chirwa praised ChaCha’s dedication to uplifting others, saying her work embodies the values the awards seek to celebrate.
“Our mission is to shine a light on Africans and members of the diaspora who are making a difference in their communities and inspiring others through their actions,” Chirwa said.
He added: “We want the next generation to understand that success is not defined solely by titles, wealth or recognition, but also by the positive impact we make in the lives of others.”
The recognition marks another milestone for ChaCha, whose generosity has earned her a growing reputation as one of Malawi’s most prominent philanthropists.
Reacting to the news, an emotional ChaCha said she was deeply honoured to have been selected.
“I am humbled and honoured to be earmarked for the award,” she said. “It is a motivation that will spur me to do more and create meaningful change.”
ChaCha has become known for stepping in to support artists, vulnerable individuals and community initiatives.
In one of her most talked-about acts of generosity, she recently donated K4 million to musician Symon Stephano, the creator of the hit song Ma Chocho Handende.
She also gave K1 million to Lackson Jonala, who produced a remix of the popular track.
The award places ChaCha among a growing list of Africans and diaspora figures being recognised for using their influence and resources to make a difference in the lives of others.
