Bermudian midfielder Lauren Cardwell and her University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team completed their regular season with a 2-0 victory over the Guelph Gryphons at Back Campus Fields.
The result marked Toronto’s fourth consecutive win and secured second place in the Ontario University Athletics [OUA] standings with eight wins, one defeat and three draws.
First-year forward Olivia Thompson opened the scoring in the 20th minute, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead that they held until the closing stages.
Team captain Maggie Mullins added Toronto’s second goal from a penalty stroke in the 57th minute, while goalkeeper Mary Yang kept a clean sheet.
The Varsity Blues will now prepare for the OUA Championship, which will be hosted by the York Lions at Alumni Field in Toronto on October 24 and 25.
