The Pittsburgh Penguins captain ended his six-game scoring drought, avoiding a longer wait to get his 2026-27 campaign underway. The stretch tied the longest Crosby has gone without a goal to begin an NHL season.
Crosby experienced the same slow start in 2018-19, when he was held scoreless over his first six appearances. He quickly made up for lost time, recording six goals across his next four games.
The 39-year-old veteran, in his 22nd year with the Penguins, fired a wrist shot passed Chicago Blackhawks' goaltender Spencer Knight. This marks Crosby's 207th regular-season first-period goal, and now he is only one short of tying Mario Lemieux's franchise record.
