The DVLA Chief Executive also said the replacement of DP plates with tamper-free stickers has plugged massive revenue leakges.
He says that as of April 2025, the total number of DP plates issued at the Ports averaged between 1,800 and 1,900.
In the first month after the introduction of the stickers which ensured that every vehicle is issued with a sticker before it is moved out of the Port, DP issuance rose from a maximum average of 1,900 to over 5,000.
By October of 2025, DP sticker issuance at the Ports rose to over 15,000 a month.
The revenue associated with DP issuance are as follows:

This summed up to a colossal amount USD155.4 million for the 3-year period.
A renegotiation of the agreements reduced the SLA cost to Ghc2 million for 2026, 2027 and 2028.
From USD51.8 million per year to Ghana Cedis 2 miion for the three years.
This translates to savings of about USD50 million every year.
In the 2025 fiscal year, DVLA contributed Ghc17.7 million into the Consolidated Fund and Ghc80.4 million into the Road Fund as statutorily required under the Road Fund Act, 1997 (Act 536).
These payments represent the highest contribution into the Road Fund in the history of the Authority.
This puts total contributions to mandatory funds at Ghc98.1 million.
