The Las Vegas Raiders need more than another complementary receiver. They need someone who can change how defenses cover their offense. Jacksonville Jaguars wideout Brian Thomas Jr. offers that upside, even as his production continues to slide ahead of the November 10 trade deadline.
There is one important complication: Jacksonville has not indicated it wants to trade him, however Thomas generates excitement around the league, but the Jaguars have shown no desire to move him. Any Raiders proposal therefore needs to respect Jacksonville’s leverage without becoming an expensive gamble.
The ideal offer is a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

What would the Raiders need to give up for Brian Thomas Jr.?
Here is the proposed deal:
Raiders receive:
- WR Brian Thomas Jr.
Jaguars receive:
- 2027 second-round pick
- 2027 sixth-round pick.
A second-rounder supplies meaningful value, while the sixth-round selection provides a modest sweetener. Las Vegas would acquire a receiver with proven high-end production without surrendering its most valuable draft asset.
The framework also has a recent comparison. Houston acquired Marvin Harrison Jr. from Arizona for a package centered on 2027 second- and sixth-round selections. That transaction has already prompted discussion about whether a similar return could tempt Jacksonville to reconsider Thomas’ availability.
But a comparison is not a guarantee. Jacksonville is 4-1 and pursuing a playoff berth, so it has less incentive to subtract talent than a rebuilding seller would. The Jaguars can reasonably prefer keeping Thomas over accepting a package they consider insufficient.
Las Vegas should nevertheless hold its first-round pick. Paying that premium would mean valuing Thomas almost entirely on his rookie ceiling while overlooking nearly two seasons of declining production.
Why do the Raiders need Brian Thomas Jr.?
Thomas’ appeal begins with what he has already accomplished. As a rookie in 2024, he caught 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those numbers demonstrate a receiving ceiling that makes him more intriguing than a typical deadline rental.
His recent production, however, demands scrutiny. Thomas finished 2025 with 48 catches for 707 yards and two touchdowns. Through five games this season, he has nine receptions for 105 yards and one score on 18 targets. His offensive snap share has fallen to 48.2%.
That decline creates the buying opportunity. The Raiders would be betting that a clearer role and different offensive structure could restore his effectiveness, not assuming that his rookie production automatically returns.
The potential fit alongside Brock Bowers is compelling. Thomas could stretch coverage vertically and make safeties respect the perimeter, creating more room underneath for the tight end. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted that Thomas’ deep threat still helps open space for Jacksonville teammates despite his modest statistics.
Thomas could also become a longer-term building block for Fernando Mendoza rather than merely an addition for the current quarterback arrangement. That developmental fit has surfaced in trade analysis linking him to Las Vegas.
Why would the Jaguars consider this offer?
Jacksonville would gain a valuable second-round selection for a player whose current workload has diminished. The additional sixth-rounder would improve the return without making the package excessive for Las Vegas.
Still, Thomas’ contract strengthens Jacksonville’s position. He remains under contract through 2027, with a fifth-year option decision due next spring. The Jaguars are not facing an immediate deadline to trade an expiring player.
For the Raiders, that control is precisely the attraction. They would have time to integrate Thomas, evaluate his fit and decide whether he deserves a longer commitment.
The second-and-sixth package balances that upside against the risk. Las Vegas should make the call, present a serious offer and avoid turning a calculated acquisition into a first-round overpay.
